AUGERED PILING
Whether you’re building a new house, adding an extension, building a garage or conservatory, it can be a hugely daunting task having to consider solutions to resolve problems with ground conditions. At Midland Piling we have a specialist team who’ll work with you to advise and guide you at every stage, delivering the best solutions time after time.
The auger blade called a “flighting” to act as a conveyor to take out the drilled out material. The movement of pushing the material out of the hole being drilled is caused by the rotation of the blade.
In a construction setting, augers are used for special drilling rigs to dig holes or augerating for deep foundation auger piles. Another use is for auger piles forming a piling retaining wall, which can be constructed in the same way as foundation piles.
An auger used for digging auger pile holes is called an earth auger or a handheld power earth drill, a soil auger, or mechanized post hole digger. This kind of auger can be a small hand-held device or powered by an electric motor or engine. Handheld augers can also be used for making holes for garden planting.

AUGER PILING COMPANY IN LEICESTERSHIRE, ENGLAND, UK
Midland Piling is a mini piling company who specialise in all aspects of piling or mini piling. Making us a number one choice for our customers.
Midland Piling currently operates a number of augered piling machines. These range from 1.8 tonnes to 32 tonnes in weight. Depending upon the type and configuration of the machine and auger, pile diameters range from 150mm to 1300mm.
Our smallest machine for use in augered piling is specifically designed for sites with limited access and low headroom. This can construct piles of 150mm, 250mm and 300mm diameters. In rotary bored pile mode, it will construct piles in diameters between 450mm to 1300mm to a maximum depth of 35 metres.
So how does it actually work? The auger is drilled into the soil or rock to the required depth, dependant on the project. The auger is then slowly removed with the drilled soil or rock as concrete or grout is pumped through the hollow pile. The grout pressure and volume must be carefully controlled to create a continuous pile. Steel for reinforcement is then lowered into the wet column. The finished foundation element supports compressive, uplift, and lateral loads.

AUGERED PILES
In order to achieve the highest standard of augered piles, a computer is placed in the piling machine. From this information, our specialist augered piles contractors can see the progress of the augered piles and are able to halt work if things aren’t quite going to plan – although this is extremely rare. This means that no issue is unresolvable and if any problem has the potential to arise, it will be stopped before anything irreversible occurs.
The drilling process involved in creating augered piles is suitable for use in dense layers and is resistant to ground water or unstable soil conditions.
Midland Piling uses only the best machinery and equipment to create the augered piles. One of our many pieces of equipment includes our in-house T5000 auger piling rig.
There are many advantages to this specialist rig, which include:
- Ability to reach required depths where conventional piling and machinery is unsuitable
- Ability to auger to depths of up to 10m
- Ability to auger in otherwise inaccessible areas due to detachable engine section and retracting tracks.
